DR. CHERRIETHEL (Cherry) K. Emerson

Dr. Emerson is an anthropologist with expertise in the areas of American Culture and multi-ethnic conflict resolutions. Dr. Emerson's B.A. is a specialized degree in Criminal Anthropology.  Dr. Emerson's M.A. is in Anthropology with additional work in the Graduate School of Public Administration specializing in Criminal Justice.  Dr. Emerson has a diverse background that includes work in high-tech environments involved in R&D, marketing and manufacturing, private sector correctional facilities, higher education (face-to-face classes and fully-online classes) and web-based customer service for a game company.

Dr. Emerson's Criminal Justice experience includes private prisons, community treatment centers, probation and parole, criminal proceedings, jury selection, law firm case management, interviewing and investigations.  Dr. Emerson has developed policies and procedures that have assisted programs in meeting the ACA standards as well as local and state standards.   Dr. Emerson developed multi-cultural support programs for Native American, Black American and Hispanic prisoners that celebrated diversity while supporting similarities.  Dr. Emerson received acclaim for this innovative and successful approach.

Dr. Emerson's Medical Anthropology explored the cross-cultural concepts of illness and disease as well as developing treatment plan for clients.  Dr. Emerson supports preventive medicine programs.  Recently, her attention has been on developing support procedures for those facing Alzheimer's issues and evaluating long-term facilities.  Dr. Emerson's services have been most helpful to those clients who need a local contact to arrange everything from evaluating facilities for their loved one, assisting with the transfer and managing the estate sale and sale of the home.  This includes coordinating with the family, the loved one, the attorneys, the doctors, the facility and the realtor.  With Americans being so mobile, it is comforting to know that there is a competent professional looking after your interests.

Currently Dr. Emerson is contracted as an Adjunct Professor with Front Range Community College (FRCC), Colorado; Dr. Emerson is proud to be a graduate of the same community college.  Classes she has taught for FRCC in the past are ANT 101 Cultural Anthropology, ANT 111 Physical Anthropology, SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology, ETH 224 Chicano Studies and ANT 263 Anthropology of Folklore.  Dr. Emerson is currently serving on the FRCC Faculty Senate, is on the Latino Subcommittee of the LEAP Committee and is Vice-President of the PTFO (Part-Time Faculty Organization). 

Dr. Emerson has also held contracts with Aims Community College teaching ANT 101 Cultural Anthropology for them in the PSE0 Programs at Frederick and Erie High Schools in the St. Vrain School District, Colorado.    Dr. Emerson is also under contract with CCCOnline to teach ANT 101 Cultural Anthroplogy and/or ANT 111 Physical Anthroplogy using Desire-to-Learn (D2L).  Dr. Emerson was contracted as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado-Boulder, while in graduate school, for Graduate Seminars in Medical Anthropology as well as upper division Medical Anthropology and Ethnography of Southeast Asia classes.  Dr. Emerson is certified to teach online classes in Web/CT, Vista/Blackboard, Blackboard or Desire-2-Learn.  All FRCC and AIMS content for the online portion of the F2F classes were designed by Dr. Emerson and there were modifications made to the CCCOline shells.

In addition to her professional background, research capabilities and problem solving ability, Dr. Emerson is an engaging and motivating speaker on issues involving her areas of her professional experience as well as researching and preparing tailored presentations for your audience.  Dr. Emerson has expanded her speaking engagements to include such diverse topics as "How to Manage the Transition from Home to Alzheimer's Facility," "Rats, Lice and History,"  "Why People Believe Weird Things," "Delinquency and Single-Parent Mothers: Remodeling Personal Culture," and "A History of Perfume" with hands-on samples of essential fragrances.  Dr. Emerson is committed to life-long learning and her enthusiasm is contagious!

Dr. Emerson's consulting services are available on an hourly rate for companies within Colorado or for projects that can be managed and completed via on-line communications.  On site consultations outside of Colorado are on a daily or weekly rate plus expenses.   In some instances consulting contracts of up to one year duration can be arranged with a four to six month lead time.
